Your piece looks very clean and I like how you managed to keep colour in there without making it too bright or happy looking, and I find it interesting that you chose to build the lady up from the bottom, solidity-wise. Personally I don't really understand what you did with the dark patches in the dress that is right behind her back, and the dark parts in her hair and because of that I am subtracting half a point. Overall; great piece! I love the sky best of all :D

Thanks for the feedback. I'm pretty proud myself with keeping the color without it being too bright. The building from the bottom-up on the lady was a last miunute decision. I wanted her to look like she was just starting to appear from the man's tears.

Unfortunately, the dark patches are a result of having been staring at the drawing for a few hours straight and just missing them altogether. There should be some glow there, as well...

I wonder if it's too late to resubmit before the challenge deadline.

Love what you've done with the reflective surfaces! Also I like the contrast between the fiery sky and the blue on her, and how you tied everything together by also making his tattoos red. Because of the sky color it almost looks like the cross is the third character and I think that is a good thing. The reason I give 4.5 stars instead of five is because the only thing maybe that could be 'improved' is that the colors you have used do not strike me as /sad/ per se. They are powerful but I am not sure if I would call it 'color of loss', that is why in context of the contest I did not make it 5 stars. Still I really like it, tons of luck in the contest!

Thank you for the response! I was trying to make the cross a third character, I'm glad you caught that! :) Since the cross was there, it jumped out to me.

I agree with the color choice. I wanted to do it something more "sorrowful", but it was sooooo overdone. There are a lot of entries that are dark and hiding detail that I didn't want to be part of the crowd :P Plus, Jazza said this was a coloring contest, so maybe I'll get points for technique and shading :) Anyways, thank you so much for your critique. It was extremely helpful and hopeful!
